Adrian Lewis became the latest PDC star to support the Darts on Your Doorstep initiative, in association with Smart Energy GB, after opening a new darts facility at the Mayfield Memorial Hall on Sunday.
The PDC in the Community scheme was launched together with Smart Energy GB in November 2024, with grassroots darts facilities receiving a makeover alongside an information session on energy management in the home.
Darts on Your Doorstep has been a resounding success all over Britain, with Lewis following in the footsteps of Stephen Bunting, Luke Humphries, Chris Dobey, Jonny Clayton, Damon Heta and Mark Webster with a special appearance to open a new facility.
The two-time World Champion joined Smart Energy GB at the Mayfield Memorial Hall in Ashbourne for Sunday’s launch ahead of the 2026 BOYLE Sports World Grand Prix in Leicester.
The 41-year-old – a former World Grand Prix runner-up in 2010 – also took part in a Q&A with club members and challenged local players at the venue in Derbyshire.
“It was a privilege to represent the PDC and Darts on your Doorstep in Ashbourne,” said Lewis, also a four-time World Cup of Darts champion.
“Darts is a grassroots sport and I think it’s fantastic to see the investment being made by the PDC to help grow the game in local communities.
“The support from Smart Energy GB has also been brilliant, and speaking to the fans in Ashbourne, the opportunities this will create for so many players in the area is massive.”
Since November 2024, over 50 clubs across the UK have enjoyed new darts facilities – including new Winmau Blade 6 dartboards – and over a thousand individuals have taken part in sessions to learn more about managing household energy use and ways to help save money on bills.
These sessions also communicate the benefits of smart meters and how households can use them to help understand and stay in control of their energy use in the home.
Christina Panayiotou, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at Smart Energy GB, said: “It’s so important that local darts clubs are being improved and renewed through the Darts on Your Doorstep programme, so that they can continue to be enjoyed by darts fans and players for years to come.
“We hope that the information sessions will also prove a useful resource for people in the community. A smart meter can be a really useful tool for helping people to know how much energy they are using at home, how much it costs, and to find small ways to save on their bills.”
The Smart Energy GB Darts Challenge is also taking place as part of the Darts on Your Doorstep scheme, with the top-performing clubs throughout the year winning a money-can’t-buy dart-fitting experience from Winmau, the PDC’s official equipment supplier.
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter said: “Since the launch of our Darts on Your Doorstep initiative in November 2024, the impact on clubs around the country has been significant.
“I’m delighted that we can continue working with Smart Energy GB to promote the benefits of smart meters across Britain, as well as transform the darts facilities of grassroots venues.
“It has been hugely rewarding to see so many clubs throughout the country benefitting from the scheme, because darts plays such a crucial role for so many communities.”
