Gerwyn Price insists he’s playing some of the best darts of his career after returning to winning ways on Night Two of the 2026 BetMGM Premier League in Antwerp.
Price opened his Premier League account on a landmark night of action in Belgium, defeating Gian van Veen, Jonny Clayton and Michael van Gerwen to surge up to second in the embryonic table.
The Welshman recorded back-to-back 6-5 victories over Van Veen and Clayton at the AFAS Dome, before averaging over 104 to topple Van Gerwen 6-3 in Thursday’s showpiece.
“It’s our first time in Antwerp and I managed to get the win, so I’m over the moon,” revealed Price, who suffered a quarter-final exit against Luke Humphries on Night One in Newcastle.
“It’s good to get some points on the board early.
“Going out in my first game last week upset me a bit, especially after having chances to win the match.
“The game against Gian was really tough, just trying to get two points on the board.
“Once I had done that I started to relax, and next week I’ll be even more relaxed and hopefully I’ll play even better.”
Price has made a terrific start to 2026, defeating Luke Littler and Luke Humphries on the World Series of Darts circuit last month, while he also impressed at the recent Winmau World Masters.
The 2020/21 World Champion missed a match dart to beat eventual champion Littler in the semi-finals, before producing a host of stunning displays in the year’s opening Players Championship double-header.
The 40-year-old averaged 105.69 across his seven matches at Players Championship Two on Tuesday, featuring averages of 117 and 111 against Michael van Gerwen and Luke Woodhouse respectively.
However, his average of 107.41 in Tuesday’s final wasn’t enough to take the title, as Wessel Nijman produced a nerveless display to triumph in a last-leg thriller.
“In patches I’m probably playing the best I’ve ever played, but so is everybody else,” conceded Price, who will take on his World Cup partner Clayton on Night Three in Glasgow.
“I played brilliantly in the ProTours this week but it still wasn’t good enough, so I need to be even better.
“I think the fact the two Lukes are playing so well has probably kicked us up the backside a bit. I am practising more than ever now, and it’s paying off.
“I’m sure Michael [van Gerwen] and everybody else are doing the same, and it’s good for the sport because everyone is on their toes.”
