Sunday saw a new concept for the ADA when introducing ‘set play’ for
the final day of competition (best of 3 sets, 5 legs).
The standard of play from the players increased to ever greater
heights after 2 grueling days of competition and 3 tournaments having
taken their toll.
Michael ‘the Badger’ Bajowski played strongly throughout the weekend
and found it tough going in his Round of 64 match-up against Lindsay
Hadji-Ali before eventually winning in straight sets (3-2, 3-1) adding
a 121 finish to proceedings.
James Bailey dispatched Stuart Coburn 2-nil (3-0, 3-2), which
included, the shanghai finish on the 20’s and the evergreen Howard
Jones went through by the same scoreline (3-2, 3-0) when paired with
Mitch Wadsworth.
Jamie Rundle made Ray Smith work hard for the victory and claimed a
set when going down 1-2 (0-3, 3-0, 2-3) with Smith twice producing
combination finishes of 122 & 116 during their Quarter-Final match.
Smith and Bajowski would meet in the Final and produce a match of
immense quality. It went all the way to a decider with Smith holding
hos nerve to produce his second win of the weekend 2-1 (3-0, 2-3, 3-1)
with 4x 180’s plus a 108 and 104 clutch finishes to add to his tally.
The win meant that both Smith and Brody Klinge finished the weekend
level on points and ensuring the Kyle Anderson Trophy, in its
inaugural year with the blessing of the Anderson family and to be
awarded at the end of the WA tournaments every 12-months, would have
both player’s names engraved upon it.
If ever there were a more fitting way to end the opening contests of
the 2026 season, it couldn’t have been scripted better.
