Uganda will feature in their maiden BetVictor World Cup of Darts campaign in June, after Patrick Ocheng and Juma Said emerged the winners of the North African World Cup Qualifier.
Following a refreshed qualification system for the World Cup of Darts, two African nations will qualify for the global darting festival, and Uganda secured their place as the North African representative after claiming glory in Nairobi on Sunday.
Ocheng and Said were the sole pair to represent Uganda in the African Dart Group World Cup Qualifier, as the duo won five games straight to come out victors from the field of 40 teams and secure their spot in Frankfurt.
They kicked off the qualifier with a 5-2 victory over Kenyan pair Samuel Wachira Maina and Kalala Ezekiel, before winning by the same scoreline against Felix Kirwa and Sammy Njanaba to reach the quarter-finals.
The Ugandan pair then saw off another Kenyan pair in the form of Festus Chepkwony and Simeon Rop 6-3, before reeling off four consecutive legs to defeat Joseph Wanjohi and Michael Kama 7-3 to go one game away from history.
Ocheng and Said faced Malawian duo Rodgers Zako and Carnage Mkandawire, and won seven of the opening eight legs to eventually triumph 8-3 and secure history for their nation.
Zako and Mkandawire were on the cusp of history for Malawi, another nation never to have previously appeared at the World Cup of Darts, after also seeing off four Kenyan pairs to reach the final.
Uganda, as a result of their success, join the 33 nations to have already qualified, with six more spots to be decided through international qualifiers in the coming months.
The pairings of many nations are also yet to be decided, with Graham Filby’s partner in the South Africa team to be finalised soon through a qualifier.
The 2026 World Cup of Darts takes place from June 11-14 at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, and features 40 pairs of players representing their nation.
Reigning champions Northern Ireland will headline the tournament following their historic maiden win last year, as the pairs compete for a boosted £500,000 prize fund.
