Team Canada dominated proceedings on the opening night of the 2026 Cross-Border Darts Challenge, as the new CDC season got underway in Deer Lake, Newfoundland on Friday night.
With every opening round tie contested between the United States and Canada, the hosts delivered a statement display on home soil, with Adam Sevada the solitary American to progress to the quarter-finals.
Top seed David Cameron led Canada’s charge, producing the performance of Friday’s opening day in a five-leg whitewash of former World Matchplay champion Larry Butler.
The 56-year-old averaged 92.78 to breeze past Butler, following up his first maximum with a clinical 105 checkout to cap off an impressive display.
Cameron will now take on Jeff Smith in the last eight, after the former Lakeside runner-up kicked off the tournament with a 5-2 success against 2008 UK Open finalist Gary Mawson.
Jacob Taylor survived six match darts in dumping out reigning champion Leonard Gates, who had converted a brace of ton-plus finishes earlier in the contest.
Albert Anstey also progressed in similar fashion, punishing multiple missed match darts from former Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist Stowe Buntz to overturn a 4-3 deficit.
Anstey raised the roof with a magnificent 167 finish to open his account in leg three, before following up a 116 combination with a tops-tops 100 outshot to complete the comeback.
Jim Long – the solitary Tour Card Holder in action this weekend – eased through to Finals Day with a 5-2 win over Doug Boehm, and Sevada now awaits the 57-year-old in the quarter-finals.
Sevada defeated three-time World Champion John Part by the same scoreline, racing into a 3-0 lead before defying a spirited revival from the North American icon.
Elsewhere, Kiley Edmunds and Darryl Christie completed the quarter-final line-up, running out 5-3 winners against Nick Linberg and Jason Brandon respectively.
The fourth staging of the CDC Cross-Border Darts Challenge concludes on Saturday evening, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final taking place on a bumper night in Newfoundland.
