Jonny Clayton has enjoyed a dream return to BetMGM Premier League action in 2026, and the Welshman is aiming to maintain his sparkling form as he sets his sights on reclaiming the coveted title later this month.
The Ferret has achieved four nightly wins this season, with his first nightly win coming on Night Three in Glasgow, courtesy of a dominant 6-2 win over Gian van Veen, which saw him take out an astonishing 156 checkout to seal the victory.
The 51-year-old then claimed his second nightly victory on Night Six in Nottingham, where he beat Luke Humphries 6-1 despite suffering from gout in his ankle.
World number five Clayton also recorded an impressive 67% doubles success rate, becoming the first player in the 2026 Premier League season to win multiple nights.
The 2021 Premier League champion added to his tally on Night Ten in Brighton with a thrilling 6-5 comeback victory over Michael van Gerwen, winning the last four legs to recover from 5-2 down.
That took him back to the top of the table, and he then backed up this victory by winning seven days later in Rotterdam, with a 6-4 win against Luke Littler cementing his spot at Finals Night in London.
“It’s a great feeling to know that you’re through; that’s what we all chase at the beginning,” reflected Clayton.
“I’ve been consistent and at the end of the day consistency is massive. I was favourite to finish bottom in this, so I’ve showed everybody that they were wrong.
“I really enjoy the event and I love the tournament, so that probably has a massive part to do with it.”
Clayton is now battling Littler for top spot in the table, although the world number one stretched his lead at the summit to five points following his Night Fourteen success in Leeds.
The Welshman is aiming to take the seat at the top of the table for the second time in his career, previously doing so in the 2022 season.
However, World Champion Littler is looking to clinch top spot for a third consecutive campaign, and can expand that streak with victory over Clayton in the Night Fifteen quarter-finals in Birmingham.
“I’d love to be top but I’ve done my job,” insisted Clayton, who will feature at Finals Night for a fourth time on Thursday May 28.
“I’m in the top four and that’s all that counts, but I think myself and Luke have got a little bit of a battle on to see who can get that top spot!”
