Beau Greaves, fresh from becoming the first woman in PDC history to win a ProTour event, is searching for a record-extending third Women’s World Matchplay title in Blackpool.
Beau Greaves has had an astonishing start to life on the ProTour after becoming the second woman in PDC history to obtain a Tour Card.
The 22-year-old broke new ground by becoming the first woman to claim a PDC ProTour title in winning Players Championship 11 in April, defeating three former World Champions en route to the title.
In a nail-biting final against Michael Smith which went to a last-leg decider, the Doncaster arrowsmith magically conjured a 142 checkout to win the title and seal a historic victory in Milton Keynes.
“Winning a ProTour so quickly was a shock to me,” confessed Greaves, who also accounted for Rob Cross and Gary Anderson during the event with averages over 102.
“I know I can play darts, but the quality on tour is unreal, so I thought I’d need more time to settle in.
“It’s amazing for me to play players that I’ve always watched growing up.”
Greaves sits in seventh on the Players Championship rankings 24 events in after a tremendous start to life on the circuit, which includes three quarter-finals and a semi-final on top of her title.
Her eyes are now set on more silverware at the Women’s World Matchplay, as she eyes a record-extending third title at the iconic Winter Gardens.
Despite winning back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, Greaves fell short to eventual champion Lisa Ashton in the semi-finals last year, and hopes to reclaim the trophy.
“This is a tournament we all look forward to,” affirmed Greaves ahead of the tournament’s fifth edition, as she will take on Kirsi Viinikainen in the opening round.
“It is great for the women’s game, and I’m really excited to be back.
“This is what you play on the Women’s Series circuit all year for, so it would be amazing to win this title for a third time.
“It should be a fantastic event. It’s a great line-up, and hopefully we all show what we can do.”
The top eight in the Women’s Series rankings qualify for the tournament, with current champion Ashton and 2022 winner Fallon Sherrock also among the players to appear in Blackpool.
Nevertheless, Greaves is the dominant force on the circuit, topping the rankings after an absurd winning run that stretched 114 matches and 17 consecutive events.
“I still love playing on the Women’s Series,” insisted Greaves, who has not missed an event on the circuit this year despite holding a Tour Card.
“I’ve missed a lot of Development Tours but that’s solely down to the fact I love playing on this circuit.
“It’s not because I win a lot. I get to see the girls and I’m getting a lot of enjoyment out of playing the game.
“The girls all support me and they want me to do well, but I think they want me to break into that top 64 and leave the Women’s Series!
“That’s what I want, I want to be a professional darts player, plough on and play well.”
Greaves is the second-best performing new Tour Card holder in the sport, largely due to her exploits on the Players Championship circuit, and doesn’t plan on stopping where she is.
The World Youth Championship runner-up secured a European Tour debut at the Hungarian Darts Trophy at the end of August after winning through the qualifier, and is relishing her future in the sport.
“I’m really excited to play on the European Tour and I would love to qualify for some majors, but I know I’ve got a lot of work to do that,” assessed Greaves.
“I’ve put myself in a position where if I keep doing well, I might get into these events earlier than expected, but I am really just enjoying it.
“I love playing darts, so it’s all a bonus for me.”
