The PDC has confirmed Simon ‘the Wizard’ Whitlock will make a welcome return to Australia and New Zealand to take part in the inaugural PDC ANZ Premier League in 2025.
One of the most affable and recognizable players in world darts, he will no doubt receive a warm welcome from his myriad fans, he is the first confirmed player named for this groundbreaking tournament. A further 2 will be announced at the conclusion of the Australian Darts Association qualifiers (12 events).
Whitlock has spent 15 years at the pinnacle of the sport in Europe with a respectable CV – runner-up in the 2010 World Championship final losing to the GOAT, Phil Taylor, European Champion 2012 and the 2022 PDC World Cup of Darts Champion alongside teammate Damon Heta amongst his glittering career highlights. He returns to these shores in the quest for a spot at the World Championships held at the Alexandra Palace from December 2025. The overall PDC ANZ Premier League winner qualifies for the Ally Pally in addition to prize money.
The Wizard made many sacrifices for the opportunity to follow his dreams and remains one of Australia’s favorite sons. His dedication to the sport is unwavering and aided in opening doors and forging a path for others to follow, notably the late, great Kyle Anderson and Damon Heta. All three were inducted into the Darts Australia Hall of Fame in 2024.
Matt Porter, PDC CEO, stated: Since announcing the PDC ANZ Premier League last year, we’ve seen huge interest and the addition of Simon Whitlock is a huge boost allowing fans across Australia and New Zealand the opportunity to see the region’s greatest player in action,” he said.
Set over eight nights, fans have the opportunity to be part of an electrifying evening of darts at the highest level right here in Australia and New Zealand.
